on February 1, 1991, USAir Flight 1493(Boeing 737-3B7) and Skywest Airlines Flight 5569 (Fairchild Metro III) On a night with light to moderate traffic at Los Angeles International Airport in 1991, an air traffic controller mistakenly assigns an inbound USAir Boeing 737 the identical runway where a SkyWest Airlines commuter flight is awaiting departure clearance. Upon landing, the 737 collides with the small aircraft, skids off the runway, and strikes a building. All 12 passengers and crew on the SkyWest flight are killed, along with an additional 22 occupants on the USAir flight.
